EDI Interconnecting

EDI Interconnecting - Thermoplastic Solutions

Overview

Delta Saras offers EDI (Electro-deionization) interconnecting thermoplastic piping and manifold systems designed for high-purity water distribution in semiconductor, solar, pharmaceutical, and other precision process industries. Our solutions combine clean-room compatible thermoplastic materials, precision fabrication, and proven jointing technologies to deliver contamination-controlled, low-particle, leak-free interconnections for EDI skids and balance-of-plant piping.

Joining Technologies & Selection Guidance

1.Thermal Fusion (Butt/Socket Fusion)
    • When to use: PE/PP/HDPE systems where continuous, homogeneous joints are required for chemical resistance and low-leak risk.
    • Benefits: High mechanical strength and permanent, void-free joints.
    • Considerations: Requires certified fusion equipment and trained operators; performed in controlled fabrication settings for high-purity lines.
2. Electrofusion
    • When to use: For HDPE and some PP systems when mechanical access is limited or a field-repairable joint is needed.
    • Benefits: Strong, reproducible joints suitable for field work with portable equipment.
    • Considerations: Requires certified electrofusion tools and traceability of parameters.
3. Solvent Welding / Adhesive Bonding
    • When to use: PFA/PVDF/PTFE (specialised adhesives & surface treatments) and certain PVC/PVDF small-diameter connections.
    • Benefits: Smooth internal surfaces with minimal crevices, suitable for small-bore instrumentation lines.
    • Considerations: Proper solvent selection and post-cure protocols required to avoid contamination.
4. Mechanical Compression & Flanged Joints (PTFE-lined / Gasketed)
    • When to use: Where disassembly for maintenance is required (instrumentation, sample panels, valves).
    • Benefits: Serviceable connections, straightforward field assembly.
    • Considerations: Use high-purity gasket materials and controlled bolt torques to maintain leak-free performance.
5. Welded Thermoplastic Fabrication (Custom Fabricated Fittings)
    • When to use: Complex manifolds and fabricated components requiring radiused bends, bosses, and custom interfaces.
    • Benefits: Seamless components with minimised internal dead volume.
    • Considerations: Performed in-shop under controlled thermal profiles to meet validation requirements.

Key Capabilities

  • Material options: PFA, PVDF, PTFE-lined thermoplastics, PP-H, HDPE, where applicable.
  • Prefabricated spools & manifolds: Custom thermoplastic spools and compact manifolds fabricated to match EDI skid layouts and field tie-points.
  • Clean fabrication: ISO-classified fabrication workflows, particle-controlled assembly, and post-fabrication cleanliness certification.
  • Instrumentation integration: Precision ports for flow meters, conductivity sensors, pressure transmitters, and sample points.
  • Testing & validation: Hydrostatic testing, helium leak testing (where applicable), and purge/flush protocols to validate cleanliness and integrity.
  • Documentation: FAT/IQ/OQ support documentation, material traceability, and fabrication drawings aligned with client specifications.

Key Benefits

  • Ultrapure handling: Low extractables and leachables, chemically inert materials minimise ionic contamination and organic carryover into EDI stages.
  • Reduced particle generation: Smooth internal surfaces and controlled jointing techniques lower particle shedding versus metal alternatives.
  • Corrosion resistance: Thermoplastic materials resist aggressive chemistries used in upstream and downstream pretreatment processes.
  • Lightweight & modular: Lighter than metallic systems, enabling quicker installation and simplified skid integration or replacement.
  • Serviceability: Modular manifolds and quick-change connection points speed maintenance and minimise system downtime.
  • Regulatory & quality alignment: Fabrication and documentation designed to meet pharmaceutical, semiconductor and solar industry QA expectations.
